Lifesaver Jet Rescue Boats

The Lifesaver Jet Rescue Boat Service has provided key emergency service and patrol operations for many years in South Australia. The Lifesaver Jet Rescue Boat Service conducts regular surveillance patrols and rescue missions in the Metropolitan, Mid South and Far South Coast areas, in addition to other areas of the State.

The Lifesaver Jet Rescue Boat Service is the key group utilised in 24 hour emergency call outs and at times works in close liaison with the SA Police and other emergency service agencies.

The Lifesaver Jet Rescue Boat service works closely with the volunteer beach patrols of clubs and actively supports the SLSSA strategy of making South Australian beaches safer. The service also works closely with other support service groups eg, Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter Rescue Service.

The Lifesaver Jet Rescue Boat service has been operating for more than 30 years. JRBs are primarily used as a surveillance vessel however they also provide 24-hour callout and search and rescue service. The development of the aluminium craft, powered by turbo-charged diesel and petrol engines has meant a significant advancement in white water rescue capabilities.

With an overall length of approximately 6.4 metres, the craft is slightly longer than its predecessors but offers greater speed and manoeuvrability with the craft having a search and rescue duration of up to ten hours. Operational areas include high seas, shallow waters and river mouths where a jet system is unmatched.

The absence of underwater appendages inherent with water jets allows the boat to operate close to shore and in shallow waters. The craft is capable of transporting numerous people and has the ability to perform long distance surveillance and rescue patrol work in the white water aquatic environment.
