Ecosurf - what and why?

ECOSURF is a program for surf lifesavers to work together, and with our partners to make a positive environmental impact on Australia's coastline.

We have no choice
The forecast effects of climate change and subsequent rise of sea levels leaves Surf Life Saving (SLS) vulnerable. We will be one of the first organisations to be affected; we need to be amongst the first act.

We have the responsibility
With 305 clubs and 129,000 members volunteering time to saving lives, SLS accepts through providing a vital community service that we can have a negative impact on the environment. We work in sensitive eco-systems and it is expected, and in the future will be demanded that Ecosurf be a part of everything we do.

We have the opportunity
SLS has the potential through our clubs, members and the people we influence (beachgoers and supporters) to demonstrate practical and highly visible ways in which we can all have a positive impact on the environment. We will position ourselves as leaders for good environmental practice.
