Profile
"Our mission is to save lives on beaches through education, prevention and rescue services."
This will be achieved through 'Our Vision' of working effectively with the community and Governments to provide safer beaches and aquatic environments for South Australia.
SLSSA remains the key agency for beach safety and a vital community service playing a fundamental role in building healthy communities in addressing community issues and government policies such as obesity, physical activity, youth development, safer communities, training and education, and family.
A surf lifesaving club is the heart of any beach, providing better
health outcomes for South Australians of all ages. It is a
meeting place, a training college, a fitness and recreation centre,
an emergency evacuation centre, conference room, social and wedding
function centre that encourages physical activity and teaches
important Australian values - volunteerism, family, leadership,
teamwork, meeting challenges, and pursuing excellence.
Surf Life Saving SA holds the following values which guide our day to day actions with staff, members and the community:
Teamwork
We will work together with our colleagues and clubs to build and strengthen SLSSA
Responsibility, equity and volunteerism
Our services in support of volunteers will be fair and equitable with the aim to ensure that they can act independently.
Collaboration
Wherever possible we will work in collaboration with other emergency services and sports to avoid unnecessary duplication.
Learning and education organisation
SLSSA is committed to being a learning organisation providing the best possible education services and resources to members and the wider community of SA.
Health and safety
We will display and promote the highest levels of health and safety.
Environmental health
We will promote the benefits of a healthy and sustainable environment in all things we do.
"Our mission is to save lives on beaches through education, prevention and rescue services."
We do this by:
- Minimising risk on South Australian beaches by co-ordinating the efficient operation of beach patrol services, and promote best practices to surf lifesaving clubs and government.
- Facilitating and encouraging youth development, education, training, health and safety of surf lifesavers and the community.
- Providing a range of services and events to engage broader member and community involvement in surf lifesaving and the beach.
Today, the Association comprises Surf Life Saving South Australia Inc. (SLSSA) which primarily governs and co-ordinates surf lifesaving in SA, and surf lifesaving clubs strategically located around the SA coastline. From Whyalla to Port Elliot, over 5,500 members aged seven years to over 70 contribute to a volunteer emergency service of the highest standard.
