Make a Bequest

Making a Gift that lasts

Each of us finds different ways to make our mark on the world. When you help make our beaches safe by including Surf Life Saving in your will you give a gift that lasts longer than a lifetime, a gift that will always be remembered. Should you choose to leave a Bequest through Surf Life Saving, you can be sure that your gift will help save the lives of thousands of people each year.

Our volunteer surf lifesavers give up their own time to train and patrol our beaches each summer, keeping us safe. They are willing to risk their own lives to save the life of someone that they have never met. They are true heroes of the surf. But even heroes need up to date equipment and training to get the job done. The following examples are just some of the ways your gift can help.

Community Education

Educating the community is a priority for Surf Life Saving. Bequests to Surf Life Saving can help provide surf safety education sessions for schools and community groups, surf fun clinics and other community education programs.

Gear and Equipment

Our gear and equipment needs to be in the best operating condition at all times and ready to go at a moment's notice - lives depend on it. Operating in the harsh salt-water environment means that our equipment needs continual maintenance and regular replacement. Bequests to Surf Life Saving help replace worn out equipment such as Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs), Jet Rescue Boats and Jet Skis which help speed up access to people in trouble.

Training and development

Your support to help train lifesavers is vital to maintaining this service. Providing training and rescue equipment for each lifesaver costs approximately $1600. Bequests to Surf Life Saving can be directed to the training and development of lifesavers across Australia.

When you choose to give an important gift to change lives, of course you want to be certain that it will be effective. The following reasons are why you can trust your gift will help through Surf Life Saving:

  • Established in 1907, Surf Life Saving has been saving lives on our beaches for almost 100 years.

  • Accredited by the Australian Government and registered as a deductable gift recipient.

  • The money raised by Surf Life Saving directly supports our work on the beaches.

  • Surf Life Saving is one of Australia's favourite organisations. More than 55 million beach visitations occur each year.

Preparing a Will

When preparing a Will, it is advisable to seek qualified legal advice to ensure you achieve all you wish for your family and others through your Will. Your solicitor can advise you on how to minimise the tax paid from your estate by beneficiaries and explain more complicated matters such as trusts, guardians, asset valuations and power of attorney.

It is important that you consider your own family first. Even if you plan to leave a large amount of your estate to Surf Life Saving, it is important to include your family (ie. Children) in your Will. In this way you can prevent later personal and legal struggles should there be any contest of your Will.

When you leave a gift in your Will to Surf Life Saving, we will arrange for personal acknowledgment of your commitment to keeping our beaches safe. (Of course, you may remain anonymous if you wish.)
